‘Sounds of the Future’ is Universal Music Group’s global campaign celebrating Black creativity and Black music history. Having kicked off in the US, now the programme has expanded to the UK following Black History Month. It includes an exhibition called ‘Black Frequencies Gallery’ at UMG’s HQ in the UK drawing on the label group’s archives.

UMG UK has also teamed up with the Black Music Coalition for a new two-year internship for an aspiring industry executive. They’ll get to rotate between three UMG divisions in their first year, then focus on one of them in the second.

“Launching SotF in the UK builds on the important legacy of the programme – shining a light on Black British artistry,” said Sharlotte Ritchie, senior director of global impact and communications at UMG. “Black British music and creativity have carried rhythms and messages across time and borders, influencing our culture and artistry today, and providing light and possibility for the future.”
