Citrin Cooperman doesn’t make that many headlines in the music-industry media, but the tax and accounting-services firm has played a vital role in the business over recent years.

One of its teams works on valuing music rights for big catalogue deals involving companies from Hipgnosis, Downtown Music and Reservoir to the publishing arms of all three major labels.

Now Citrin Cooperman has secured new investment of its own, with Blackstone acquiring a stake in the company.

Specifically, the investment giant has bought a stake currently owned by VC firm New Mountain Capital – a company you may remember from our coverage when it led the buyout of US rights-management entity BMI in 2023.

Blackstone, meanwhile, acquired Hipgnosis Songs Fund last year, and Sesac back in 2017.

“Blackstone will help us make additional investments in expanded service offerings and technology,” said Citrin Cooperman CEO Alan Badey.
