Bandcamp Friday, first started by the platform to support artists through the Covid-19 pandemic, is a promotion over 24 hours when Bandcamp waives its revenue share for the day — with 100% of all proceeds going back to the artists.
This has continued into 2025, with the latest event on August 1st generating an extra $3.5m for artists site-wide. That’s $300k more than the prior Bandcamp Friday on May 2nd.
In total, Bandcamp Fridays have given over $140m back to artists. The upcoming event on September 5th will also announce a new feature, Bandcamp Clubs, offering “a new way for fans to connect more deeply with artists and each other”.
How can artist teams best utilize Bandcamp?
Offer physical products. As an artist-forward marketplace, in addition to music Bandcamp is the perfect place to offer merch like vinyls, clothes and posters.
Tag your music. If your music is tagged, bandcamp.com/discover allows listeners to find you by searching by genre, sub genre, location and merch type.
Maximize pre-order potential. Launch your pre-orders simultaneously with album releases to capture interest. Bandcamp’s notification feature also alerts your followers automatically.
