Instagram has made a small change to the way ‘re-posts’ work in its app, and we think it could be good news for artists on the platform.
The change, as explained by Social Media Today, is that when you share someone else’s post, it may now appear in the main feeds of your followers – as opposed to just in their ‘stories’ feed – and will also appear in a dedicated tab on your profile.
Two implications. First, it could mean a big boost in reach for artists’ posts if they are re-posted by lots of fans. And second, artists could use this feature to boost fans’ posts too, sharing them with their wider fandom.
In separate news today, Instagram has followed TikTok in introducing a feature to play reels short videos at 2x speed, enabling people to scoot through longer videos more quickly.
TechCrunch suggested that this “increases the chances of a viewer actually reaching the end of longer videos” – useful information for artists and their teams who are experimenting with the length of their reels.
