You wait a while for a new AI music-related deal to come along, then three turn up at once. Today’s crop includes GenAI music firm Udio announcing a deal with Audible Magic. It will see every track created on Udio being fingerprinted and registered, enabling streaming services to identify them and “apply the appropriate business rules around their distribution”.
The second deal focuses on a different use of AI around music. Epidemic Sound has acquired music-recognition startup Song Sleuth, whose AI tech focuses on identifying music used in user-generated content. The acquisition will see them launch a tool called ‘Aentidote’ to identify remixes, covers and live recordings on UGC platforms as well as regular tracks.
Finally, samples marketplace BeatStars has signed a deal with AI startup Sureel. This is about protecting all the sounds on BeatStars from being used for AI training without permission: but also providing AI companies with a dashboard showing them which music on BeatStars *can* be licensed and used.
