TuneCore has been among the sponsors of the Axean Festival since the South-East Asian music conference and showcase’s inaugural edition in 2021. As part of its association with the event, the distribution platform has also been selecting one artist each from five countries in the region— Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam—to perform at the showcase. For the upcoming installment of Axean, which is scheduled to take place from 26 to 28 August in Bali, it’s expanding the contest to acts from India as well.
While the applications are open to artists across all genres and languages, they must have an active TuneCore plan, be Indian citizens, and have a passport that’s valid for at least the next six months, to enter. The last date to apply is June 30.
Though Axean is focused on South-East Asia, artists from around the world have participated in the showcase, including those from Australia, China, France, Japan and South Korea. Indian acts, Carnatic jazz-fusion rock band Jatayu and singer-songwriter Taba Chake played the festival in 2022 and 2023 respectively. They had to make their own arrangements whereas those chosen by TuneCore will receive a token grant of Rs70,000 (approx. $740) to support travel and accommodation costs.
