Attendance and revenue figures for tours by Indian acts are hard to come by. Among the exceptions are the record-breaking runs by Diljit Dosanjh. The 15-date, 13-city North American leg of the Punjabi singer’s Aura World Tour, which was held between 23 April and 21 June, drew more than 225,000 attendees and grossed $32m, says promoter Live Nation.
Those numbers surpassed the $27m sum earned by his 2024 Dil-Luminati shows, which previously stood as “the highest-grossing North American tour by a Punjabi artist”. Diljit is not done yet. In September, he will reportedly become the first South Asian act to stage a stand-alone concert at London’s Wembley Stadium.
The 90k-capacity venue will mark the largest performance outside of India by a Punjabi artist, again a record first achieved by Dosanjh when over 54k people flocked to his show at the BC Place stadium in Vancouver in 2024 during the Dil-Luminati tour.
It’s been a pretty good year so far for the singer and actor. His latest Hindi film, Main Vaapas Aaunga has not only garnered rave reviews, but word-of-mouth has helped the movie beat the odds and increase footfalls during its second week of release, despite opening to a slow start at the box-office.
