The US Grammy Awards are getting some new categories for 2027, including two that continue its expansion into international genres and scenes.

Next year’s event will include an award for Best Asian Pop Music Performance, with K-Pop, J-Pop and C-Pop among the genres eligible.

“Asian pop music is one of the most significant and sustained forces in the global music industry. Its impact is well-established, and it continues to grow and shape music culture around the world,” said Grammys boss Harvey Mason Jr

There will also be a Best Latin Song category for songwriters for the first time. Other new categories include Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance and Best Traditional Folk Album.

There are also some rule tweaks governing the Best New Artist category; on what percentage of tracks need to be ‘new’ on an album to make it eligible – down to 66% from the previous 75% bar – and a new ‘Ballot Plus’ tweak to the voting structure.

Also new: songwriters and composers who contributed new material to the winning albums in most genre categories will now get Grammy statuettes and certificates, matching the recognition given to producers and engineers.
