Twitch and SoundCloud have linked up for SoundCloud Sessions, a 12-hour DJ marathon on Twitch taking place today, June 26, from 9AM – 9PM Pacific Time. Hosted on Soundcloud’s Twitch channel, it features sets from DJs whose fandom straddles the two partner platforms. But it’s not just these headliners who are taking part: anyone can join in.
“An open call goes out for DJs globally across every scene to go live on Twitch and perform for fans around the world,” SoundCloud and Twitch explain, so dig your decks out and make sure that the mixer knobs are nice and hot.
Both SoundCloud and Twitch are partly built around community features that allow fandoms to grow, interact and communicate with artists, and Electronic music remains one of SoundCloud’s fastest-growing genres. There’s been a 39% increase in the use of the #DJset tag year over year, and some niche scenes, like hard techno and UK Garage, are building global communities on the platform.
Live-streaming is, of course, having a moment again, after the widespread hype during the covid pandemic. Kick, which is owned by online casino company Stake, has seen a huge recent spike in viewership, despite – or perhaps because of – having been accused of having much lower content regulation barriers.
