Tringbox is an Indian AI startup that’s making background music more generic and specific at the same time. The Mumbai-headquartered company has built what it describes as an “environment-aware” platform for commercial spaces.

“Traditional background music systems rely on fixed playlists that often ignore the context of the venue, the customer mood, and the time of day”, says the press statement announcing that it’s just raised approximately Rs5 crore (around $530k) in seed funding.

Enter Tringbox, which takes all those factors into consideration—as well as inputs such as the day of the week and weather conditions like the temperature and humidity—and dynamically adjusts the kind of music being played through a venue’s speakers.

That adjustment is done through its proprietary Hybrid Neuro-Symbolic Music Engine, which analyses characteristics such as “tempo, rhythm, loudness, energy, spectral balance, and harmonic stability” to select tracks that align with “the emotional and functional needs of a space”.

No prizes for guessing that the music is AI-generated, or in Tringbox’s words, “royalty-free audio that is purpose-built for commercial ambience and environmental modulation rather than entertainment alone”.

Aimed at brands with multiple outlets, the platform enables their HQs to “maintain the same musical vibe across every store, monitor what’s playing through a central dashboard, and receive offline alerts when music stops at any location”.

Founded by Amandeep Singh Chawla—who previously worked at Ernst & Young, Amazon MX Player and digital payments app Paytm—the year-old startup has been operating in stealth mode running pilot deployments and collecting real-world feedback to refine its product. Its funding round was led by investment firm Gandhi Investments, and included participation from MGB Advisors; Paytm’s chief business officer Narendra Yadav, as well as angel investors.

Currently live in 30 spots across India, including restaurants, cafés, retail stores, gyms, salons and clinics, Tringbox plans to use the fresh capital “to accelerate product development, expand its intelligent speaker network, and scale deployments across premium venues across India”.
