Rosalía’s performance of her track “Berghain” at the recent BRIT awards left many calling it the performance of the night. Meanwhile, sales and streams of both the track and its parent album ‘LUX’ rocketed over 300% week on week.

The opera-inspired song surprised with the inclusion of a techno remix by Conrad Taylor, which the DJ originally posted to TikTok the day after the release of “Berghain” – with the caption “If the new Rosalía track was actually played at Berghain”.

The track quickly caught fire online, earning him a follow from Rosalía and resonance with his own audience, being that the remix is within his usual genre. Fast forward a few months later, and a week after the BRITs performance, the remix is now available on DSPs.

How to remix it up

Keep an eye on UGC. An emerging artist or user might be handing you your next official remix or storytelling opportunity. Note how Rosalía’s team didn’t jump on it immediately, but came back to it when the time was right.

Consider commissioning social remixes. The most viral songs thrive on having multiple versions of the audio being used across the platform. Commissioning or officially adopting social remixes (sped-up, slowed, or genre-flipped versions) provides more hooks for different subcultures to latch onto.
