Collabhouse is the Netherlands-based music promotion and distribution firm launched by Spinnin’ Records co-founder Eelko van Kooten. This week it is unveiling its newest service at the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) conference.
It’s called the Collabhouse Pre-Cleared Artist Music Library, an admirably does-what-it-says-on-the-tin name. It’s all about micro-syncs: a platform aiming to connect smaller brands with independent artists for sync licensing deals. Collabhouse also hopes that influencers, independent filmmakers, game and app developers and podcasters will be attracted to its catalogue of pre-cleared music.
In keeping with a current trend in the sync market, Collabhouse is also making use of AI technology – in this case to help customers automate the process of synchronising their licensed audio to their video, as well as to search through the catalogue. Artists set their minimum licence fees, with Collabhouse taking a 25% commission on sales.
That seems good: a guest column from an artist that we published in 2022 warned that some micro-sync platforms were taking a “predatory” 70% revenue share.
