Startup Lickd has been steadily growing the catalogue of music it has available to license to creators on platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitch, TikTok and Snapchat. Its latest partner is publisher Warner Chappell, complementing its existing deal for recordings from Warner Music Group.
The deal covers Warner Chappell’s entire catalogue of songs. Warner Music Group also invested in Lickd in September 2021, as part of a funding round that also included Epic Games. Since then, Lickd has signed indie licensing agency Merlin and production music firm Audio Network, as well as dipping its toes in the metaverse via a deal with virtual world Decentraland.
The company also hired former Deezer executive Golan Shakéd as its chair of board in June. Shakéd recently wrote a guest column for Music Ally urging the music industry to “insert itself into these new worlds as contributors rather than as gatekeepers”.
