Last year, the electronic artist Grimes posted to X that she will only release her music on LinkedIn from now on – in what sounded like a joke.
But this week, a profile with Grimes’ real name Claire Boucher appeared on LinkedIn, which was quickly picked up online. (Though it’s unclear whether it’s really her).
Just like your typical LinkedIn profile, Boucher’s lists the artist’s achievements – like ‘Art Angels’ being dubbed album of the year by various music outlets, as well as her NFT projects.
It remains to be seen if it actually is her, and if yes, how much the artist will actually use the platform – but it certainly created a lot of conversation. But she’s also not the only one: rapper Meek Mill also joined the platform recently.
Learnings from Grimes.
Try out something new. There are some platforms that most artists are active on, but tapping into lesser-used artist platforms has potential to create a moment.
Use a platform for its strengths. LinkedIn has maintained consistent growth over the years, surpassing 1b members worldwide. Consider whether it could be a fit for your artists – with possible uses like networking, engaging with brands, and sharing knowledge about your artist’s area of expertise (production, business, etc.)
