Since its earliest days, decentralised streaming service Audius has been talking about its plans for payments to artists — including directly from fans. This week, the latter feature is emerging from private beta, opening it up to any artist who has music available on the service. The beta launched last November with more than 100 artists taking part.
While Audius has its roots in the web3 world, this isn’t about tokens. Artists can set prices for their music in US dollars, with fans able to pay using regular credit cards. Artists will then be able to convert the payments to other currencies.
Audius also revealed its cut of these transactions. “As part of the expansion of the Audius music marketplace, for the first time, 10% of every payment will now be captured by the Audius community treasury, with proceeds to be used at the direction of on-chain governance,” it announced. “A governance proposal is pending to finalize this change.”
